Flashback Friday 119

It is so nice outside. It is camping season... and I want to go! Therefore, I decided to post a picture from when I went camping with my favorite Santa Barbara Institute girls back in May 2002.

They were so much fun. I miss them.

Confession of a Brunette on the Internet 172

This is probably going to be pretty short since I spent the long weekend out of town and blogged about it all....

It was 90+ degrees the whole time I was in AZ.  I came back to Utah and it rained. It is actually nice... keeps it cooler a little longer. Makes everything super green. This is the only time of year that even the mountains are green. It's so pretty. Utah is very pretty... I love Utah most when it's not Winter. :) This is the time of year that I love that I live here.

I know that my blog is my journal, but I decided to start another journal... like a real one. It looks awesome because it is a leather cover and it has thick recycled paper and it is really small, so it fits in my purse, but it is also really thick, so it should last me a while. I'm pretty open on my blog... but I mean, come on... I still don't tell you EVERYTHING. So, I will write more personal stuff in there, PLUS calendar journaling (trying it out) and I will have quotes and pictures and doodles and keeping track of my weight loss goals AND.... I want to paint more, but I never do. I think one of the reasons why I don't is because I don't want to commit to canvas and think I need to find a place to put it. I could totally paint on this paper... so I'm hoping to paint in it as well. If I think of music lyrics for the new Duo (me and Ben). It is going to be a a journal that is a mix of everything that I will always have on me, so I will hopefully get good use out of it. We shall see.

So while I was in Arizona, I went on a date with this guy that I had met on LDS singles before I quite. He lives in Tucson... so we obviously never met, but we talked almost everyday for 2 1/2 months before I went out to Arizona and we finally went on a date. I was nervous. You just never know with online dating what you are going to get. It is VERY typical for one of both people to get their hopes up and set up high expectations and a lot of times those expectations are not met when they actually meet. It added more pressure that he drove 2 hours to take me out. Lucky for both of us... it was awesome. He is a gentleman, a good guy, attractive, SO easy to talk to, a few years older than me, never been married and doesn't have kids, we clicked and have lots in common. Chemistry was there. We ended up spending like 8 or so hours together. I know it was only one date, but I like this guy. I mean... it helps that we kind of built a foundation before we met. So now what? He lives in Tucson. What am I supposed to do with that? Ugh. Then there is Rugby guy. He is also great and wants to go out again. We were supposed to tonight, but it didn't work out. #datingtroubs

Weight Loss update. Since I was at my sister's on Monday, I actually didn't weigh in and measure... but I'm feeling good... in fact, guess what? All of my old pants fit so right now.... I don't care what the scale says. THAT feels great. I still have a long way to go, but I'm really happy I'm back in a lot of my clothes again. We will see what the scale says next week. :)

So I finished watching all of the Walking Dead. Loved it. Totally gross but good.... so now I am on to the next show. I started watching Revenge. I'm half way through the first season. I am liking it so far. It is interesting.

Last night after Institute, Sarah (my old roommate) came over for a chat... so we caught up, which was fun. THEN today, Meg and I got together for dinner at the Trolley in Springville. It was so fun to see her and spend some quality one on one time and catch up. I miss them both. I told her we need to make it a regular thing... like once a month. Hopefully we can make that happen.

Arizona Weekend

I spent this long Holiday weekend visiting my sister Jamie and her cute family. It went by far too fast. It had been too long since I had gone to visit. Hopefully it will not be as long until the next time I go.

What did I do while I was there? Well....

Friday, my friend Ashley picked me up from the airport bright and early. Then took me to Jamie's house and we just hung out there for the rest of the day. I played with my adorable niece and nephew. Later that night, Jamie had gotten a babysitter so that Jamie, Dan and I could go to dinner and a comedy show, Jesterz. We got Greek food (YUM) and the show was pretty funny. I'm always up for improv comedy shows.

Saturday, hung out in the morning. Asher got to dress up and go to a superhero party. The afternoon I went with Ashley to the Ghost Town and Canyon Lake (which I already wrote about). Came home, Painted my nails and Gwen's nails (she was so happy to have her's painted just like mine) got ready for a date.... which is how I spent the rest of the night.... obviously the date went well. Stinks he lives in AZ.

Sunday..... church..... nap..... chill.

Monday, went to lunch with Ashley, Dayna & Lisa. Had a fabulous time. Later Jamie took me to see the new Gilbert Temple that is not done yet. The rest of the afternoon was spent at Stephen Hixon's house where the whole Hixon family that is in AZ gathered for a Memorial Day BBQ and good time. It is nice to know that I am always welcome there. I always like to see them when I am in town too. They are great. Then Jamie took me to the airport. Like I said... it was a short weekend. It was good though. I love spending time with friends and family.

Canyon Lake

After going to the Ghost Town, Ashley took me to Canyon Lake. The drive was beautiful... maybe because I don't typically go to a lake in the middle of the desert. Arizona is hot... so we took a dip in the lake for a bit and then head home.

It was fun to see some new places in Arizona since I have not really explored it much. I just love to explore new places. :) Soooooooo..... here are some pictures I took on our way to and at Canyon Lake.

OldField GhostTown

Today, my friend Ashley and I went to explore a Ghost Town on Apache Junction. Pretty sure I haven't gone to a Ghost Town since I was a kid. Kind of fun... but I was surprised how many tourists were there.... but I guess that is pretty typical. They make Ghost Towns into tourist attractions. Here are some pictures I took from our little trip.

Flashback Friday 118

I'm visiting my sister Jamie in Arizona this weekend, so I thought I would flashback to this picture of us from 2003. Aren't we cute? :)

Confessions of a Brunette on the Internet 171

I am really tired and sun burnt (which makes me more tired) from a work activity today that I will blog about later... so this is probably going to be really short.

I am all caught up on The Walking Dead. I may or may not have cried during a part of the 3rd season. I think Fringe is next on the list of shows I'm going to watch. It is by JJ Abrams... so it is bound to be good.

Diet is still going well... even though I get frustrated because I am not losing as much as I did in the beginning. I still have made good progress since the beginning. I have lost 16 pounds so far. Can't complain about that. This weekend will be the first weekend that I will be out of town while on the diet. I think I am prepared enough that I should be fine. :)

I went on another Tinder date last night... I think it went really well because he wants to take me out again when I get back. This guy is super great. Very friendly and easy to talk to. Did I mention that he used to play for the US Rugby team? No big deal. I look forward to getting to know him better.

I don't know why I have been so tired this week.... but I have... so I feel like I haven't really done much. Maybe I have just been saving all of my energy for this weekend. ha ha

Sunday I went to my parents house as I usually do... when I showed up, I noticed that there were some cars there that I didn't recognize. I walked in the house and my Aunt Brenda and my cousin's wife, Heather, were there chatting with my mom. I gave them a hug. What a nice surprise. Of course that meant that my cousins's David and Travis were there too. It is always so fun to hang out with Anderson's. I mean... we grew up seeing each other quite often. I just love spending time with family. One day (I don't know if we could eve make it happen) but it would be so fun to have a Mills/Anderson cruise vacation! We would take over the ship... it would be out of control fun. Anyway.... it was the best surprise EVER for my Sunday. Totally made my week. I told Travis and Heather that I would make the trip out to see them this summer... so I need to figure out when I am going to make that happen. So many places to go and people to see.... so little time.

If it were me, I would have rocked out too. I LOVE karaoke!

Jars

So.... one day... my awesome neighbor, Geoff, came over to say hi. Somehow... we got on the subject of eating healthy. Naturally I went off on how he should pack salad in a jar. Obviously... because I am very passionate about salad in a jar. It kind of changed my life.

This got me going on how great jars are... and all the ways you can use them. So I started listing the options with passion to Geoff.  For example, I told him... of course everyone first thinks of jars for canning....

But... you can also put candy in them.

Make cupcakes in them.

Eat and drink out of them.

Put names in them like I did for my service jar.

Use them for lighting.

Make waterless snow globes.

The list goes on.... as I finished listing everything I could think of, Geoff decided to leave and told me he would dream of jars.

The next day, he posted this on my facebook wall. It made me laugh.

Summer Planning

When summer approaches, I get super excited to plan out all of my activities. I try to see how many trips I can fit into 4 or 5 months. I mean.... I live to travel. Not just all of the traveling, but all the activities as well. I mean.... this is the best part of single life.

A couple of friends and I have been planning. I hope they are serious about this plan..... because I'M EXCITED!!! Seriously... if this plan falls through, I may cry. Here's what is in the works....

Anyone want to come?

Planting

This is what I spent a lot of the afternoon doing..... I love having  a garden in the summer. I'm sure I will do another post about it as my garden grows. :)

Flashback Friday 117

One of my BFF's, Steve, recently got engaged. So I thought I would do a flashback of the boys. We have been close since we first become friends in 2004. This flashback takes place in December 2006. We were all still in Provo at the time, but all living different places. They all remembered my birthday and surprised me by all coming over together to spend a little of my birthday with me. It made my day. I sure do love them and miss them.

Confessions of a Brunette on the Internet 170

I have started watching the newish hit tv show "The Walking Dead". It is good, however, I have to turn away or close my eyes every time a zombie is killed because I can't handle it. It is pretty graphic. They only have the first two seasons on Netflix so far... so I only have a few more episodes until I will have to be done until they post the 3rd season. Guess I will need to find another show in the meantime. What did I do without Netflix for so long?

Saturday I felt like I was all over the place. I had spent the night in SLC after my concert because I needed to go to my eyelash/massage trade the next morning anyway. Then I came back and ran errands and cleaned and tried to get a lot done, then watched a movie with Mr. Karaoke because he just had surgery and is kind of stuck at home these days while recovering. We had been talking about watching the Sixth Sense for a long time. Since Halloween in fact. He had never seen it and I bought it for $5 at Walmart just so he could see it. Anyway.... I don't know how he went so long without seeing, but we finally did. Then I hung out with James. Ya... it had been a long time. I mean... he just kind of pops in and out of my life.

So lately when Lauren and I come back form the gym on our lunch breaks, we have noticed that there are boxes of Novell stuff by the back entrance where we come in. We always look in the boxes to see what is in there and have discovered that almost every time we look, there are different stuff. Free stuff that we can take if we want... so we do. Today's was awesome. It was a sun shield for the car. I totally needed one of those, especially with hot days approaching quickly. So excited about that one. The other one that I took was this Novell Pyramid that you had to build yourself with the pieces. It was a lot harder than it looked... even though it came with picture instructions... turns out they were not that helpful. It took me a while, but I eventually figured it out. It wasn't how the instructions showed, but I am sure there are a few different ways to put it together. It was like my little reward for getting all caught up at work. :)

Speaking of work, today we had a meeting. In the past year, we have had to do all of our own scanning and indexing and filing. I have hated the scanner ever since I have had to use it. It gets jammed all of the time and basically... we hadn't updated out process or software since the stone ages. I had brought up in several meetings that we should update it... that it was silly to be working at a software company that wasn't up to date with other software. I always looking for ways to improve and simplify. So yesterday we got a new scanner. Today we had a meeting about it. Come to find out that we really didn't need to be scanning at all and we had this capability with the software that we have now to just pull the pdf's and index it. WHAT?! I was excited and mad all at the same time. Where has this guy been all my life? What I had wanted all along was right there in front of me the whole time. How could nobody have known this? Wow.

You know how I performed with my friend Ben as a backup singer? Well... he said his band is kind of getter harder and harder to get together, so he kind of wants to do a side thing with me where we just do duets. Of course I said yes... because I love to sing and perform. So this week we just practiced a couple of fun cover song duets to do.... but he wants to write our own music too. I have never been super good at that, but maybe he can help me improve. I'm hoping to learn from him. Regardless it should be fun.

It is gardening season again! I am so excited! I went with Melodie, Darrell and Ellis to Home depot to buy some plants. So... I bought some and am going to plant them tomorrow. I will have to go buy some more probably. We will see once I go to town planting. When I planted last year, I didn't really think about what I planted in the cinder blocks and how they would survive through winter. Turns out.... it all came back strong after winter. I didn't even know they came back. Who knew cinder blocks were like an awesome thing to plant into. I can't wait to fix up the whole patio. Totally going to have a patio party when it's done.

Diet is still going well. I now have a friend doing it with me... which is nice. Always nice to have as much support as you can get. My weight loss slowed down this week.... but... Overall, I had great success for the month. I lost 14 lbs and 3 inches in my first month! That is great. Hope it keeps up! I'm already feeling a lot better though. Just can't wait until all my clothes start fitting great again. I also entered into a competition. Person who loses the most weight get's $1000 but there are other prizes too. I hope I get something. ha ha. If not, at least it keeps me extra committed to the program. ha ha.

I don't know how many people noticed, but ever since I updated my blogger template, my tabs at the top stopped working. I guess that coding didn't match the new template. I left them there for a year... broken. I'm not sure why. I guess I kept trying to find ways to fix it or find someone that could. Well... I think I finally found new coding in order to bring it back? Well shall see. In the meantime, I took the ones that didn't work down. So if you see them back up, it means they are working again.

In the middle of work yesterday, I decided that I didn't feel like working. I wanted to get a pedicure. So I just up and got one. It was so nice to leave work and sit in a massage chair while I got my toenails done. I love pedicures. I was so happy to take a break, leave work and get it done.

So I was looking at my bookshelf of journals and I ran across an old one. I took it off the shelf. It was a book I started years ago, that are not only my stories, but others as well. It is a compilation of different girls bad/weird/awkward dating stories and told in different styles and formats and usually in a pretty amazing way. When I saw that book, I decided it had been too long. So I took it off the shelf and read some of it to my roommates.... who are now going to contribute to the book themselves. It is a great source of entertainment. I hope that one day... when the whole book is full, that I can get it published. I think I may be able too... honestly. It would be an entertaining coffee table book. :)

This last Sunday night, there were at least 4 car break in's of people in our ward. Sad huh? Doesn't seem like too much damage was done, but still. It was a nice night outside on Monday night... so my neighbor decided to sleep on his hammock... which is hanging above his parking spot. I teased him that he took it upon himself to be the Deer Haven night guard. Really I think he would have slept outside either way. Anyway, I ended up going out there at midnight to see if he was serious. Turns out he was, so I took a picture. A little disappointed that he wasn't sleeping with his gun. Oh well. I took his picture and posted it on Instagram (for all those that follow to see) My caption said "With all of the car break in's this week, everyone can sleep well tonight knowing that Jason decided to be night guard. " #alwayswatching #safteyfirst #myneighborsleepsonhishammockintheparkinglot

Photo of the Week 168

Oh... you know.... this is just me.... trying to be artsy.

Velour was pretty artsy, so while we were backstage waiting, I took some pictures. I dig the collectic look.

Mother's Love

A little taste of the Ben Bailey and the BB Bandits concert last Thursday. I made up the harmony for the chorus. That was my part in all of this. ha ha. It was fun.

I thought it would be appropriate to post "Mother's Love" since it was just Mother's Day.

Ben Bailey and the BB Bandits

My friend and neighbor, Ben, is in a band. One day (aka last Sunday) he asked my friend and roommate, Jessica, if we would help make up some harmonies to a few of his songs and help sing back up at his show at the Velour the following Thursday. We both never pass up a chance to perform... so we said yes.

I was pretty excited. The first and last time I was at the Velour (aka Hipster Hangout) was when I went to see Joshua James with my good friend Allyson. Now I was going to be singing on that stage. Just to a much smaller crowd. :) Here we are hanging out backstage, waiting to go on.

My ward is great. We put out an email that we would be performing... and we had a big group come to support us and listen. Some even made signs. I love my ward. It was so great. Jessica and I even got this nice note the following Sunday.

It is always a pleasure to perform and be among musically talented people. I only hope I get to do it again. :)

It was so fun to perform at the Velour with this band. Such a fun venue with fun people. I also got introduced to some new music, which is ALWAYS fun.
