I still have not used couch surfing while traveling (although I hope to on my next trip) but I have now hosted 2 couch surfers myself. Last night I had Mina over. She is from Illinois. Just driving through on her way to LA. She is awesome. So fun to talk to, very kind and considerate. I know so many people are against couch surfing. They think it is too risky. Or too weird to have strangers staying at your house. Me on the other hand, I have only heard of good experiences with it with my friends that have used it and now I have had two really great experiences with people staying at my house. I love meeting new people. I love making new friends. I love a community of people that are there to help each other out and open their homes. You are able to come in contact with some pretty neat people that you wouldn't get to otherwise. People that you can learn from. Missionary opportunities.... and the beautiful concept of paying it forward. You open up your home to someone, someone else is going to open up their home to you. It's great. It gives me faith in humanity, that there are way more good people in the world than bad people and I like to focus on the good that can happen instead of the bad things that could happen. Of course you still have to use caution and be smart. Mina was a pleasure to have. I didn't get to spend that much time with her, but it was like we were instant friends.
She left early this morning... when I went to the kitchen this morning, I found this on the counter from Mina. What a sweet girl.

That's awesome. It totally reminds me of the documentary Craigslist Joe.
