Alice In Wonderland

Last night I went with a group in the ward to see the midnight showing for Alice in Wonderland. I think I am getting too old for midnight showings. I am so tired today, and I was having a hard time staying awake after the movie had just started. Not because the movie was boring by any means... I loved it actually. I think one of the reasons it was so hard to stay away (besides the fact that it was late) is because they had the heat up so high. We were all struggling and both people sitting next to me even took off their shoes because they were so warm. ha ha.

On to the movie. I really liked it. I am not sure if I have seen any Tim Burton film that I have not liked though. I started loving Tim Burton films after I saw "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which came out when I was in grade school. So there you go. I love the Tim Burton, Danny Elfman & Johnny Depp team. I believe that started back in 1990 with "Edward Scissorhands". I learned today online that Tim Burton and Danny Elfman have been doing movies together for 25 years. The only two Tim Burton films that Danny Elfman has NOT done the music for are "Ed Wood" (which I have never seen) and "Sweeney Todd" (which I love). Why do I love this team? Tim Burton is so creative. They are not your everyday films. They are artistically done, sometimes scary or odd, many times colorful and magical. He can bring books to life that other directors could not. Because these movies are different, they are very interesting and draw me in. Danny Elfman knows how to blend the music right in with the movie so it just fits. And I love the music to "Nightmare Before Christmas". It's brilliant if you ask me... and not only did he write it, but he also sang for Jack in the movie. Now Johnny Depp, he is just a brilliant actor. I don't think many actor's could pull off the bazaar roles like he can. It also seems like he has this face that can be molded into these different characters that makes him look so different that you forget its Johnny Depp and its just the character in the movie. Anyway... I totally recommend the movie, especially if you like this movie dream team like I do. For those of you that don't know... this is not a remake of the Alice In Wonderland Cartoon, it takes place 13 years later when Alice is older and goes back to Wonderland. Alan Rickman was the voice of the Caterpillar in the movie. This made me happy. He was also in Sweeney Todd. You think he will start being in more Tim Burton films? I hope so.

Our group had fun chatting and waiting in line together. We even had a few that dressed up! If I had the proper costume on hand... I would have too. I have dressed up for two movie premiers before. Star Wars Episode II & Harry Potter. I love dressing up. Our group members that did dress up did an excellent job and received many compliments.

I also recommend seeing this movie in 3D. Normally I wouldn't. Most of the movies I have seen in 3D, you kind of forget that you are watching in 3D and it is not that different I don't feel like it is worth the extra money. "Avatar" was the first movie that I felt like watching it in 3D made a difference. In fact, I don't think I would have liked that movie as much if it were not in 3D. The movie itself is not all that special... but it is visually stunning. Alice In Wonderland is similar.. except that I would like it in 2D too and will most likely own it when it comes out on video. Go 3D! Remember when the only time you could see a movie in 3D was "Captain Eo" at Disneyland? NOW... its like... "Umm... that movie doesn't seem that cool, it's not even in 3D" Ha!

Wow, I absolutely LOVE edward scissor hands too. So moving. So weird but in a GOOD way. Who knew there was a good weird?! Especially after my late "weird guy made up dialogue".. where was I..?? oh, yes, glad you had fun. Why was it so hot while there is snow on the ground? They must have good heaters in UT.

I have reached the point in my life where I really want Tim Burton to stop making movies where he puts Johnny Depp in unnaturally pale make up. To me the peak was Edward Scissorhands which I loved!

I'm so glad you loved it. We didn't see it this past weekend, but Chuck is DYING to see it, so we'll have to go this week or something. I'm sure we'll love it too. I can't wait.
