Mr. Out of the Closet

I went on a trip with a bunch of people that I didn't know. No big deal... I tend to do that. That is where I met Mr. Out of the Closet. I thought he was kind of cute, but he was super shy so I didn't talk to him much on the trip. Here and there. At some point during this trip one of the girls tell me he had been asking about me and if I liked him. I know... like we are kids all over again. After finding this out, I tried to pay more attention to him and make more of an effort to talk to him since he was so shy. I started to get to know him a little bit. Really nice guy. At the end of the trip he had gotten my number and said we would be in touch.

For the next month or so, I would get text messages from him... getting to know each other more. Nothing serious. Then it started to fade off. Then I heard from one of the girls from that trip that he had told his parents about me and they had offered to pay for him to come out and visit me. *Say What? Who does that? They had never met me* I thought that was a little strange... he considered it but never ended up taking them up on the offer. However, news about me spread around their small town. When I went out there to visit with the girls from the trip (from the same town) he was not there, but everyone knew about me. It was the weirdest feeling... to meet all of these people for the first time and all of them knowing who I was from a boy that had a crush on me. Anyway... I just laughed it off and went along for the ride.

Obviously nothing ever came from this. We stopped texting. We just see what is happening with each other via facebook. Let me tell you, he updates his status a lot. He updates everyone where he is, what he is eating and when he is tired and of course when he is working. Bless his heart. I guess a lot of people are like that, I'm just not one of them. I usually skim through my facebook feed when I log in. One day I logged in and saw that Mr. Our of the Closet updated his relationship status to "In a relationship". I thought... wow! He is so shy... I wonder who he is in a relationship with. I check. He is in a relationship with another dude. At first I thought it was a joke. Sometimes people joke like that on facebook. This was not a joke. Everyone's comments were how happy they were that he was finally happy and being who he really was. His boyfriend is actually really cute. I guess they met on their baseball team.

Anyway, this is the first time that a guy that liked me started batting for the other team. Maybe his parents wondered and that is why they were pushing for him to come see me. I don't know.... but it gave me a weird feeling.

I'm always happy when people are ok with who they are. You don't need to feel strange about it, he probably appreciated how kind you were to him. Its hard to be gay in a religious family. Ask my cousin.

I just found out recently that the first boy I ever kissed is now gay. It's definitely a weird feeling. He's happy, so good for him, but you're right...it's weird when you were the object of their affection at some point in time :)

Chalk up another new boy experience Tracy! I don't know if there is anything left for you to experience, but alas, I'm sure there will be something new just around the corner.

Didn't mom say that one of the first boys that ever liked her in Junior High turned out to be gay? I remember this guy in high school who dated one girl for a while, but he was super gay even at the time. But he said after they broke up that he would always love her. It must be such a complicated thing.
