4th of July this year was low key this year. I wanted to go out of town, but it didn't end up working out. That is ok though, because I still had a good time. Let me tell you how my day went.
First I went on a hike with my roommate Allison. I will do a different post for this. It was beautiful. She then went off to work and I showered and then went over to my families house.
My sister Jamie and her family is is town, so that was fun to have them there. I got there late, but my dad put on a BBQ and we had homemade ice cream. Sat around, chatted.
I also hung a flag scarf in my room with lights behind it. This really got me in the patriotic mood.
Let's not forget that I totally planned out patriotic outfits too. This is an exciting part of the holiday for me. But seriously. I wore the shirt I made last year (which John told me was "interesting" aka ugly) to work the day before... and on my hike the afternoon the day of and then changed into patriotic outfit number 2. Yep... this is the exciting part of my life.
Back to the family. Once it got dark, we all went outside to watch my dad light off the fireworks that he had bought for the kids. All the kids were really excited. Especially Irelyn. I have never seen her so excited about anything before. It was adorable. She clap after each firework was over and say "AGAIN" and say she loved the crazy fireworks. Experiencing things with kids for their first time makes for an entirely different experience. I was lucky that cute Gwen wanted to come sit on my lap while watching the fireworks. So glad she doesn't feel like she has to warm up to me even though we don't get to see each other that often. Fireworks weren't even done when she all of the sudden got off my lap and said "that's enough" and walked off. I guess she only likes fireworks for a short amount of time. ha ha. I was waiting for a big firework show in my parents neighborhood... but it didn't really happen this year. Oh well. It was low key, but we had a good time. Hope that you all did too!

Yep. We missed seeing you during this 4th of July. I'm glad you had a good day.
Cute pictures, and I still think that one looks like the flag is burning. Ha. I loved being with you for the 4th.
(PS one of my "prove you're not a robot" words is "interesting." I think John is behind it.)
