Flashback Friday 7

For today's Flashback, I thought I would take you back to my Seminary Days in High School. Anyone that knows me knows that I am NOT a morning person. Knowing this... you would understand that it was a miracle that not only I made it to early morning seminary (6:30) but that I had perfect attendance ALL FOUR YEARS!!! What the... looking back I am not sure how I did it. I also got up earlier to get ready in the morning before seminary.

I know something that helped me that was that I loved ALL of my teachers. They were all fantastic in different ways, but each teacher I adored and enjoyed going for. I know that makes a difference for me. I also loved my class. Sure it was mostly girls... but we had fun together and I made some life long friends.

This is also where I gained my testimony. It was my first time reading through all the scriptures on my own. Early morning seminary, reading through all of the scriptures on a daily basis and being able to stand up for what I believe in at school on a pretty regular basis... this is what helped me to form a strong testimony for myself... putting my parents teachings aside. I was now going to church because it was something I knew to be true and something I loved.

Seminary was also the first place I really began to love and appreciate the Prophet and apostles which gave a new meaning to watching conference. How did they do that? My senior year my teacher told us to all pick an apostle and we would learn about their life and then did a little report on them to the class. It was so great because at the end I felt like I knew them all better. We even wrote letters to the person we did the report on. I was given Elder Oaks. After studying up on him and many awesome talks by him.. he is one of my favorites and I even got a letter back from him when I had written him.

So many great things came from seminary. I really did love it... even if it was so early in the morning. I am not sure I could go back and do it again. ONLY because of the time it was at though. Even though I hated what time it was out... I think there is a lot of benefit to having it in the morning before school and think that is the way seminary should be done.

These pictures are from 2001 (our senior year) We really did have a great time. I am so thankful for my seminary experience. Even though I would never choose to do that again... I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Is that Jen Sorenson next to you in the bottom picture? Crazy small world. She used to be in my ward when she lived in Camarillo
